HEIDEN ORTHOPEDICS
“I am an orthopedic surgeon, I take care of athletes, and have been an athlete myself. I’ve understood that the components for a successful athletic career are quite diverse and have always dreamed about bringing those components together, under one roof, in a comprehensive way.”
Two surgeons working together for a common goal, Eric Heiden, MD, orthopedic surgeon (pictured above examining pro cyclist, Taylor Phinney) and Russ Reiss, MD, cardiothoracic surgeon, have joined forces for the sole purpose of advancing the human performance of every athletic individual regardless of age or ability. Park City Performance Medicine and Heiden Orthopedics represent a collective of like-minded, sports-oriented professionals providing high performance care and medical services in Utah. Together they offer comprehensive sports and performance medicine including orthopedic surgery and non-surgical orthobiologic therapies (Regenerative Sports Medicine), cardiac screening, human performance packages, athletic retreats, and educational programs that emphasize medical fitness through athletic activities, nutrition and mental preparedness. They also engage in Sports Science and Human Performance research to further best practices in the field.
The Hybrid Model
Drs. Heiden and Reiss are pioneering a new model for managing an active athletic population that combines traditional medical metrics with Performance Medicine and Sports Science, utilizing protocols previously available only to elite and professional athletes. In addition to enjoying some of the most epic recreational terrain in Utah, participating clients undergo comprehensive medical and fitness testing, a battery of blood tests, nutritional analysis and sports psychology evaluation. This information provides both baseline and benchmark data and serves as guidance for the management of athletes striving to achieve and maintain peak performance.
The Pro Experience
In collegiate, Olympic, and professional sports, the athletes have ready access to the expertise of a team physician. When they are sick or injured, they can be quickly evaluated and treated. If there is a question about training or nutrition, they have the resources to obtain an answer expeditiously. We feel that type of experience and same level of attention can be provided to anyone aspiring to improve their health and performance. At Park City Performance Medicine and Heiden Orthopedics we strive to give everyone the Pro Experience.
